Anglers taking part in this week’s Deniliquin RSL XXXX Gold Fishing Classic could walk away with a $10,000 cash prize, just by snagging the right fish.
Local anglers Ian Fisher and Josh Campbell last week caught and tagged the prize fish — affectionately named Murray for this year’s event.
The 65cm cod has been fitted with a special tag, which must be retrieved and presented to the chief marshal at Classic HQ in order the claim the prize.
Before removing the tag and releasing Murray back into the Edward River, you must take a photo on your brag mat with your registration card clearly visible.
‘‘He was caught in the vicinity of the Lawson Syphons, and was a tentative biter,’’ Ian said.
‘‘We were out on the water an hour before we got him, but once he took the bait we were able to reel him in within seconds.
‘‘He specifically likes grubs, but he may have got his fill of those during the tagging process.’’
