Former Deniliquin footballer Kyle Galloway will make his Victorian Football League senior debut for Werribee Tigers when he runs out against reigning premier Footscray Bulldogs at VU Whitten Oval tomorrow.
The former Sydney AFL rookie-listed ruckman was given a chance to continue his footy career at Werribee after being delisted by the Swans at the end of 2016.
Having played an entire season in the North East Australian Football League last year, Galloway is excited to get a taste of VFL action.
"VFL is at a much higher level than the NEAFL so to get that step-up in competition will help me in the long run," he said.
"There's more AFL affiliated clubs in this league so it's pretty exciting to be able to run out with and play against AFL listed players.
"Since joining Werribee I've gotten a lot more confidence in my abilities."
The 209cm giant will team with North Melbourne cult hero Majak Daw, with Galloway expecting to play the majority of the game in the ruck.
"Their ruckman Tim English is about 206cm tall and weighs around 80kg so he is pretty light on for a ruckman," he said.
"Hopefully I can use my bigger body to take some strong marks and use my extra height to get first hands to the ball.
"He also only recently had a bit of a growth spurt.
"He was 188cm a couple of years ago and has just shot up so he's a bit raw in the ruck whereas I've trained as a ruckman since I started playing footy."
The 20 year-old suffered some injury setbacks over the preseason but showed good form in Werribee's practice matches to earn his senior call-up.
Werribee coach John Lamont has been impressed with Galloway's performances so far.
"He's worked closely with Brad Julier, our ruck coach, who's also been doing so work with North Melbourne's rucks (Todd) Goldstein, (Braydon) Preuss and Majak Daw," he said.
"We feel his development in his ruck craft is going well but he's got to improve his workrate.
"The ruckmen take a little bit longer, but we're pleased with where he's at and are looking forward to him making his debut at Whitten Oval tomorrow."
The match will kick-off for a twilight start at 5pm.
