More than $5500 was raised for The Community Fund Goulburn Valley at the recently held Water Industry Charity Golf Day at Hill Top Golf and Country Club in Tatura.
The Community Fund chief executive Cheryl Hammer said a strong field of 100 golfers took to the course on Friday, June 2, for the annual event after it had been previously postponed because of inclement weather.
Ms Hammer said the money was raised through team entry, raffles and a spinning wheel, which was enjoyed at the 19th hole after a great day on the course.
‘‘This was a fabulous result,’’ Ms Hammer said.
‘‘The 23 teams, including the first all-women’s golf team, played in glorious sunshine and enjoyed a barbecue lunch and refreshments at the end of the day.’’
The event was won by Leon Saunders, Glen Mutimer, Con Bellis and Len Tricarico — the Mooroopna Old Boys — while the runners up were the Birdie Brothers with Shane Trethowan, Francis Lees, Joe Lee and Todd Louttit.
‘‘Next year will mark the 30th anniversary of the event being held in Tatura in May 2018 and a huge celebration will be organised to recognise the milestone,’’ Ms Hammer said.
‘‘We thank all our players, supporters and sponsors for making the golf day such a great success and the money raised will be put back into the community where it is needed most.
‘‘This community effort means we can help those who are doing it a little tough at the moment, especially with winter here.’’
