A TOTAL of 56 men took part in a stableford event and first round of the Charlie Cugley Cup at the Axedale Golf Club on Thursday, June 8. The event was sponsored by Carley Advisory Services.
In division one (0-15 h/c) the winner was Andrew Watson (15 h/c, 36 points) on a countback. The runner-up was Peter Hoskin (8 h/c, 36 points) on a countback from Garry Harrop (14 h/c, 36 points).
In division two (16-24 h/c) the winner was Peter Andrew (22 h/c, 44 points). The runner-up was Terry McManus (17 h/c, 40 points), while third place went to Ernie Lowndes (21 h/c, 35 points) on a countback.
In division three (25-36) the winner was Paul O’Sullivan (25 h/c, 41 pts). The runner-up was Eric Rogers (30 h/c, 35 pts) and third place was awarded to Jeff Keely (25 h/c, 34 pts) on a countback.

On Wednesday, 33 women took part in a stroke count putts event, with a further 6 taking part in a stableford event at the Axedale Golf Club. The events were sponsored by MLC Advice.
Stroke — count the putts event
In division one (0-23) the winner was Trish Shanahan (88 gross, 16 h/c, 72 nett) on a countback from Ruth Iser (84 gross, 12 h/c, 72 nett).
The winner of the putting competition was Joy Kennedy with 30 putts.
In division 2 (24-29) the winner was Lyn Turner (94 gross, 29 h/c, 65 nett). The runner-up was Annette Purdy (103 gross, 27 h/c, 76 nett).
Lyn Turner won the putting contest with 34.
In division 3 (30-45) the winner was Marlene Lyell (113 gross, 35 h/c, 78 nett). Marianne Dunn came in runner-up with (111 gross, 33 h/c, 78 nett).
Phyllis White won the putting contest with 33 putts.
The winner of the stableford event was Karen Griffin on 34 pounts. Louise Liddle came second on a countback, finishing on 30 points.
Nearest the Pins: 2nd shot 18th hole: In division one the winner was Lorretta Prowse. In division two the winner was Karen Griffin. In division three the winner was Bernice Nihill.
The Monthly Medal winner was Lyn Turner completing her card with a nett score of 65.
Ladies Club Championship
The winner of the ladies club championship was Ruth Iser. Ruth took out both the gross and nett titles, scoring 88-90-84 (total of 262) and nett 75-77-71 (total of 223) over the three days of the competition.
A Grade Club Championship:
Ruth Iser was the gross winner in A grade with 88-90-84 (262 total). Ruth also won the nett title, scoring 75-77-71 (223 total) over the three days. The putting champion in A grade was Janette Jackson 32-31-32 (total of 95 putts) over the three days.
B Grade Club Championship:
In B grade, in a play-off from Roz Briggs and Raye Fleay, Robyn Weeks reigned supreme, taking out both the gross and nett titles. Robyns gross score over the three days of competition was 101-97-102 (total of 300), and her nett score was 77-73-78 (228). The putting champion was Helen Martin 27-33-36 (total of 96 putts).
C Grade Club Championship:
Dawn Creek came out the winner in a play-off with Anne Telford to take home both the gross and nett championship titles in C grade with gross scores of 106-115-110 (total of 331) and nett scores of 74-83-78 (total of 235) over the three days. The putting champion in C grade was Phyllis White, scoring 38-38-31 (a total of 102 putts) over the three competition days.
Veterans Club Championship (70 yrs+):
In the veterans club championship, Roz Briggs took out the title in the gross championship with 102-95-103 (total of 300), while Dawn Creek took out the nett title, scoring 74-83-78 (a total over three days of 235).
Axedale Golf Club would like to extend congratulations to Ruth Iser and Pam Davies on their division one win at Belvoir Parks 4BBB on Monday June 5 with 43 points.
