With some close games across the whole age group, the Under-12 Boys teams were the focus of a tightly contested round of matches in round seven of the Winter Domestic Basketball Competition.
On Court 1, the Celtics came out firing led by Flynn Weeks to build a handy lead at the half before the Heat regrouped and came back strong with a great team effort, just falling short by five points.
On court two, one of the form teams of the competition, the Hornets, had to battle hard to maintain their edge against a resurgent Lakers team led by Cody Marks and Lucas Hales.
In a tight second half Max Woods stepped up for the Hornets to give them a seven-point win at the final buzzer.
Meanwhile out on court three, the Magic proved they are going to be a hard team to beat, with an all-round team effort helping them to outlast the Suns with Charlie Burfield providing the spark for his team, helping them get to within 12 points by the end.
In the girls, there were some impressive results from the two games played this round.
Court one saw the Mavericks come up against ladder leader’s Magic in a tough game, which resulted in a easy win for the Magic with Brea O’Donoghue proving to be elusive on offence.
The Mavericks never gave up and showed great team spirit playing out the game.
On court three, the Hornets put in a solid effort against the Thunder with rookie Grace Cooke showing great potential for the ever-emerging Hornets.
Despite the loss, the Thunder will be looking to add to their win tally in the coming weeks as we get closer to the finals.
