Croquet notes

Sixteen players took part in the first round of the Challen Cup competition on Sunday.

Four players won their three games. Andy Davis won the round with 27 hoops and three points.

Mary James scored 23 hoops and two points on a countback from Allan Tonta and John James who each scored 23 hoops to finish equal third place and gain one point each.

Several players had good scores despite losing their third game. Brad Fawns had 25, Marg Telford and Colin Campbell both scored 23 hoops, Joan McCalman had 21 and Dora Wilson had 20 hoops.

There were nine successful jump shots for the day. Allan Tonta, Gwen Pearn and Andy Davis each had two and Marg Telford, Heather Douglas and Brad Fawns one each.

Marg Telford had a handy hoop-in-one and Bayden Thompson scored a ‘‘20 metre hole-in-one’’.

On Wednesday, 14 players showed up for croquet.

There were three three-game winners for the day.

John James won the day with 26 hoops, Colin Campbell had 24 and Brad Fawns scored 22 hoops.

Two-game winners were Jill Tainsh with 24 hoops, Allan Tonta 22 and Marg Telford 20 hoops.

Helen Moye and Colin Campbell each ran a handy hoop-in-one and Brad Fawns was the only player to manage a successful jump shot.
