Golden Rivers RSL Amateur Boxing Club’s Fight Night that was set for August has been postponed.
After success from its Fight Night in March, the club will now again look to show off its own talent on Saturday, December 2.
After the night clashed with other events held at the RSL club on August 26, Golden Rivers club president Roy Lynn said a meeting was held by the committee with the RSL.
‘‘The next available time was on the Ute Muster weekend so we had to see what day was available following that,’’ he said.
‘‘November already has a lot of fight nights booked around the area so we decided on December 2.
‘‘We want to build on the success from the first Fight Night and keep the momentum rolling.’’
In another announcement it has been decided that club member Terry Blake will take over as promoter for the event.
Lynn said he was happy to have him on board.
‘‘Terry has been in the fight game for a long time and is qualified as a referee, judge and trainer,’’ he said.
‘‘We are very lucky to have Terry take on the job.’’
Golden Rivers’ March Fight Night was a huge success with a sell-out crowd of about 350 attending.
Lynn is hopeful that if the August event gets the same support they will continue hosting more shows as a regular fixture for Deniliquin.
‘‘We’ll be using the same format for the upcoming event as the last one . . . getting as many local boxers on the program who are willing, able and fit,’’ he said.
‘‘We just want to show everyone that there are other options when it comes to sport and fitness and that boxing is a fantastic sport to be involved with.
‘‘We will be having another meeting about trying to set-up a four Fight Night fixture for next year.
‘‘We’re also still looking for sponsorship for the December event so hopefully a few businesses jump on board.’’
