Adrian Van Kampen from Club Creek Nursery at Emerald spoke at Benalla Garden Club about his passion for Liliums, advising on the different species available, plus how to successfully grow them.
Often thought of as a bulb, Adrian told members the difference was that Liliums were made up of scales.
All species come from the northern hemisphere, Europe, China, Himalayas, Japan and America.
There are more than 100 species.
Coming from cool climates, they need to be planted six inches deep allowing it to remain cool.
On a single stem there can be up to 30 flowers and with such a spectacular and long-lasting display it is easy to become an addictive collector.
By joining a garden club the benefits are multiple.
Meeting like-minded people, learning from inspiring guest speakers also from club members, going on monthly outings to private gardens and great social interaction.
Visitors and new members are always most welcome to come to meetings at the Benalla Bowls club on the first Tuesday of each month.
