Ready for luncheon: Historian Geoff Allemand will give a presentation at Shepparton Library on Sunday, July 23.

Local historian Geoff Allemand will discuss Shepparton’s past, present and future during a public talk at Shepparton Library.

The presentation, My Shepparton — Past, Present and Future, will include a photographic journey through Greater Shepparton’s past, while emphasising the importance of preserving our town’s history.

Mr Allemand said he was looking forward to speaking at Shepparton Library and addressing the importance of photographs in helping keep a record of our history for future generations.

‘‘The more people we make aware of how important it is to archive our history the better,’’ Mr Allemand said.

‘‘This presentation gives me the opportunity to speak about the past, present and future.’’

Mr Allemand has a long history of getting involved with community initiatives in Greater Shepparton, such as developing SPC Ardmona KidsTown, creating the Lost Shepparton Facebook page in 2013 and setting up the Lost Shepparton Shop in 2015.

He has also published a range of history books and products while working with the Shepparton Historical Society.

For Mr Allemand, the presentation is a way to not only speak about the past, but also how important it is to continue supporting local businesses, which are the foundation of our community.

Friends of the Shepparton Library member Janet Kiddle said the presentation was an opportunity for people in the community to explore Shepparton’s past and present.

‘‘People can discover more about Greater Shepparton, or relive their memories, in a relaxed and convivial way,’’ she said.

■The presentation is on Sunday, July 23, at 11am at Shepparton Library, 41 Marungi St, Shepparton.

It will be followed by a light lunch, hosted by the Friends of the Shepparton Library. Bookings are required. Phone Shepparton Library on 1300374765or email shepparton@gvrlc.vic. gov.au by Thursday, July 20.
