CAMPASPE Shire Council is inviting event organisers who use food vendors to an information session to assist them in understanding the changes to smoke-free dining and food safety requirements.
General manager of regulatory and community services Mr Paul McKenzie said new laws, which come into effect on August 1, ban smoking in outdoor dining areas and near food vendors.
“The changes affect food vendors who prepare and sell food at events, such as food fairs and organised events, requiring no smoking within 10 metres of the food area. If the event however is a food fair, the entire event must be smoke free,” Mr McKenzie said.
The information sessions will not only cover the tobacco law legislation changes to assist event organisers, they will provide an overview of food safety.
“Environmental Health staff will advise what they look for in undertaking a food inspection, to assist event organisers in meeting their requirements and to assist in avoiding the use of unregistered food vendors,” Mr McKenzie said.
The session will be held at Kyabram Community Learning Centre on Wednesday, July 26 (entry through the rear entrance).
Registration is encouraged. To register, contact event support officer Belinda Owen on 5481 2887 or email email@example.com
In addition to the information sessions for event organisers, Environmental Health staff are liaising with registered food premises to assist them in understanding what the changes mean for outdoor dining areas.
