New pharmacy now in Avenel - Alison O’Connor

July 13, 2017

Avenel Pharmacy has opened its doors at 2 Queen St.

The new kid on the pharmacy block, Avenel Pharmacy is officially open for business in exciting new premises.

Owner and pharmacist Belinda Stevens opened the doors a fortnight ago to the region’s newest chemist and said the response from the community had been overwhelming.

Avenel Pharmacy offers everything from PBS medications, a walk-in immunisation clinic, free blood pressure monitoring and webster packing, while they also stock a wide range of homewares, products and gifts.

The pharmacy also conducts a meds check service instore, where Ms Stevens sits down with clients and goes through all their medications, and if needed, sends referrals and reports to their local GP.

She is also accredited to do home reviews, where she visits patients in their home to provide a full medicine review and can suggest any changes she thinks might be ideal.

Avenel Pharmacy has relocated to the old Thyme and Place restaurant building on Queen St, and is open six days a week.

Ms Stevens said after studying pharmacy at La Trobe University, she had always dreamed of opening a pharmacy that incorporated beauty.

But the future plans for Avenel Pharmacy are bigger than that. Much bigger.

‘‘I would really like to see this whole commercial building become a bit of a central health hub for Avenel,’’ Ms Stevens said.

‘‘It would be great to have a GP, as well as other essential allied health services, all in the one spot.

‘‘The plan is to have a range of health professionals visiting, including a physio and dietician.’’

Soon, a fully accessible defibrillator machine will be mounted on to the external wall of the pharmacy. The machine will be available for any one in the community to use in the case of an emergency.

More information on the defibrillator machine will feature in an upcoming edition of The Telegraph.

●Avenel Pharmacy is at 2 Queen St, Avenel, and is open from 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday, and from 9am to 12.30pm on Saturdays. The pharmacy can be contacted on 57962009.
