Deniliquin District Veteran and Vintage Car Club members and supporters will celebrate early this weekend, to mark the club’s pending 50th birthday in December.
The celebrations have been brought forward to suit rally calendars and take advantage of more appropriate conditions for the older cars, and will include a golden anniversary dinner at the Deniliquin RSL Club tomorrow.
The public can join the celebrations on Sunday, when members past and present will have a show ‘n’ shine and send-off morning tea at Deniliquin TAFE from about 10am.
President Bruce Wells said up to 100 of the club’s 280 past and present members who were invited are expected to attend the weekend’s festivities.
The club was formed in 1967, with the first meeting held at Burchfields’ showrooms in End St, Deniliquin.
‘‘There were 16 inaugural members, including current members Lex Kirkby and Richard King, and subscription was $2.50,’’ Mr Wells said.
The club has 112 current members, with many participating in the monthly Sunday drives.
