German needle gun found

August 10, 2017

FOR all the history buffs out there, a new piece of local history has been found.

Stumbled upon by a Strathallan resident while working on the land, an old German needle gun has been resurrected.

Although we will need to wait until it is as good as new to have a look.

The gun has been handed to the Rochester Historical and Pioneer Society and will be ready for display soon.

Member Janine Watson said it is a piece of local history.

‘‘The gun is currently at a local gunsmith to be cleaned and prepped for display,’’ she said.

‘‘Once ready it will be kept with us at the historical society for everyone to admire.

‘‘We are hoping to find out some more information as well, including who the gun belonged to and what year it was made.’’

The Historical Society is also working on reprinting a book called Recollection of Squatting Victoria by Edward Kerr, having been last reprinted in 2000.
