Croquet

In the second round of the GVCA Golf Croquet Pennant competition the Deni Diamonds had a close win at Echuca-Moama with a final scoreline of six games all, 74 hoops to 72.

The Deni Gems had the bye.

On Thursday, the Gems are at home to Rich River and the Diamonds travel to Shepparton.

Last Sunday 18 players lined up for croquet. There were two three-game winners.

Doreen Peterson and Colin Campbell both had 23 hoops but it was the latter who won the day on a countback.

Six players won two of their games — Marg Telford, Heather Douglas, Gwen Pearn, John Tainsh and Allan Tonta all had 21 while Megan Tonta had 20 hoops.

Allan Tonta had two successful jump shots and Marg Telford, Dot Murphy and Gwen Pearn each had one.

Eighteen players took to the courts for croquet on Wednesday. Three players won their three games.

Dot Murphy won the day with a tremendous score of 27 while John James had 25 and Andy Davis had 23 hoops.

Three players had good scores despite losing one game. Jill Tainsh had 23 and Doreen Peterson and Colin Campbell each scored 22 hoops.

Megan Tonta had one jump shot and John James and Andy Davis both had three for the day. Marg Telford and Helen Moye each ran a handy hoop-in-one.
