Deniliquin St Michael’s School had success at the Southern Cluster Athletics Carnival held at Hardinge St Oval last week.
Local students competed against students from Balranald, Hay and Hillston, with 30 children from St Michael’s qualifying for the Diocesan Carnival in Parkes.
Deniliquin’s Chloe Brown took out the Senior Girls Champion title for the carnival while Stella White (11 years girls) and Brodie Elphick (11 years boys) finished runners-up in their age groups.
Students who qualified for the next stage are as follows: Henry Robinson, Ben Crossley, Arabella Bliss, Paige Brown, Stella White, Kate Westcott, Chloe Brown, Eliza Bradford, Dakota Mitsch, Abigail Jefferies, Brodie Elphick, Phoebe Hicks, Angus Shand, Dominic Rogers, Kate-Lyn Godden-Cannard, Alex Harvey, Isaac Thompson, Beau Nielsen, Jackson Scoullar, Ava Robinson, Oscar Marshall, Aysha Mitsch, Remy Henderson, Carla Crossley, Ruby Pisasale, Ava Marshall, Shelby Nevinson, Emily Harvey, Oscar Thompson and Sophie Norris.
St Michael’s School’s Year 6 netball team finished as runners-up in the NSW Regional Netball Competition in Wagga Wagga on Thursday last week.
After being undefeated last term, the girls won their way through to the semi-final against St Patrick’s from Albury.
The match ended in a draw with St Michael’s able to overcome the Albury side by one goal in extra time.
The Deni team then met Tumut in the decider and despite their best efforts they lost the match 22 to 11.
It was a fantastic effort from the St Michael’s team, which was coached by Melissa Westcott and Hannah Price and with special mention to student Kate Westcott who umpired after being unable to play due to injury.
