For 50 years, Deniliquin Meals on Wheels has made a difference to the lives of hundreds of locals by providing a friendly smile and a nutritious meal.
This year, the local delivery service is marking its golden anniversary.
A special dinner will be held on Saturday, August 19, and Deni Meals on Wheels coordinator Michelle Hand-Beehag says it will be a ‘‘big celebration’’.
‘‘Deni Meals on Wheels is a vital service and offers a meal and support for those at risk of social isolation,’’ she said.
‘‘Our clients are always greeted by a friendly smile, and we’re excited to celebrate the accomplishments of both our volunteers and the organisation as a whole over the past 50 years.
‘‘A lot has changed since the Deni Meals on Wheels started at the Presbyterian Church in 1967, however a lot has remained the same.
‘‘We’re still about our clients and offering helpful and warm social interaction, as well as a nutritious meal.
‘‘The irreplaceable support provided by our generous and dedicated volunteers is just as valued as ever, too.’’
On a national scale, the association is celebrating 60 years since its first delivery in Sydney in 1957.
