Both Deni teams won in the third round of the GVCA pennant competition in the pouring rain last week.

The Gems had a good win over Numurkah Whites, seven games 70 hoops to five games 66 hoops. Another narrow win for the Diamonds at Numurkah against their Blues saw them at six games all with Deni having the edge, with 78 hoops to 65.

On August 17, the Deni Gems travel to Echuca-Moama to play their green team and the Diamonds have the bye.

Players are reminded that the Challen Cup competition will be played on Sunday if it’s not raining.

Only nine players braved the terrible afternoon last Sunday for croquet. There were no three game winners but four won two games with good scores. Andy Davis had 23 while John Tainsh, Brad Fawns and Jill Tainsh each had 21 hoops. Brad Fawns had two successful jump shots and Andy Davis and John James each had one.

Young player Adrian Mulham won shot of the day hitting his opponent’s ball onto one of their other balls to send it flying backwards out of the hoop.

Twenty players enjoyed the lovely sunny afternoon on Wednesday for croquet. There were three three-game winners with 24 hoops each, with Andy Davis winning the day on a count-back from Marg Telford and Mary James.

Five players had good scores despite losing one game. Doreen Peterson and Brad Fawns each had 22, Colin Campbell 21 and Dot Murphy and Heather Douglas both scored 20 hoops.
