After finishing atop the Ovens and King under-18s competition, Benalla United was knocked out of the premiership race on Saturday.
United started well and looked the dominant side. Vaughn Kirk had a lot of the ball, controlling play.
The side looked up and about, and at the first break led by nine points.
The second quarter was a complete reversal for United, as the Suns stepped up their intensity and by the long break had taken a five-point lead.
The third quarter ebbed and flowed, with United in control, then the Suns.
Shawn Pentreath began to lift United with his attack on the ball and at the final break United was still in touch, down by a goal.
United began the final term well, with a goal from Jacob Cullhane putting the side back in front.
Not to be denied, the Suns replied to even the game, then scored again to take the lead. The Suns kicked another goal as United desperately tried to respond, but the Suns held strong.
In the end, the Benalla side went down by 17 points.
Top goalkickers on the day were Will Ellis and Tom Maloney.
On Sunday at noon, United will have its presentation day barbecue at Goorambat’s football ground with everyone welcome. United would like to thank everyone for their support throughout the year, and wish Benalla All Blacks the best in their pursuit of a premiership on the weekend.
