The Yackandandah team of P. Muller, B. Smith, I. Hobson and J. Holland won the BBC’s memorial day which has been running for 24 years.

Forty-six teams attended on Thursday, coming from all over north east Victoria, with four coming from just over the border, Corowa RSL, Corowa Civic, North Albury and Oaklands.

Winners of the day were the team from Yackandandah with 52 points, with a tie for runners up — St James and Benalla on 47 points.

The North East 60 and over group has been running for more than 60 years and is the biggest in Victoria.

For the past 30 years this group has held three fund-raising days each year as well as 48 games of 60 and over at the member clubs.

The money raised each year goes to the Heart foundation, New Cancer Hospital in Albury-Wodonga, and various other hospitals within the region.

Since the inception of these three fund-raising days annually, the group has raised close to $100000.

Indoor bowls results recently saw three games of eight ends played.

Winners were L. Brown, G. Green, Jack Lemin and L. Watson with a plus 12.

Runners-up were R. Edwards, V. King and Joan Lemin with a plus 11.

Last Wednesday’s open jackpot triples results saw 60 players in 20 teams play, with J. Stevens, G. Lessing and J. Peake coming out on top. Runners-up were Gunter’s side.

Saturday had two games of 12 ends in three bowl pairs.

Winners were R. Rigby and M. Knezevic with two wins plus nine shots.

Runners-up were R. Sheppard and N. Edwards, also two wins, but only two shots up.

Senior Citizen Bowls

Last Tuesday’s bowls winners were M.Ryan (S), K.Gray, G.Hernan and M.Williams. Runners-up were R.Elkan (S), M.Charlwood, J.Holmes, H.Harper and W.Harper.

Friday’s winners were D.Matthews (S), M.DeBuck, J.Mackinley and L.Saunders. Runners-up were M.Charlwood (S), K.Gray, A.Morris and H.Sharp.

Saturday’s winners were P.Hay (S), O.Wilson, B.Iilsley and J.Beattie. Runners-up were V.Burke (S), A.Morris, M.Empey and J.Hocking.
