Anzac Day events loom

Anzac Day is tomorrow and local groups in and around Benalla due to hold their traditional events.

RSL clubs in Benalla, Violet Town, Dookie and Warrenbayne are taking part.

Benalla

Dawn Service: 6am at the Cenotaph next to the Benalla-Monash Bridge.

Anzac Day March: Attendees to gather at 10.30 at Millers Corner with the march setting off at 11am, the march will travel along Bridge St, over the bridge and turn off to the cenotaph.

This year’s march is to be led by ex-servicewomen and still serving servicewomen. Organisers would like to invite as many of the women who have served with the Australian Defence Force of Benalla and district to participate in the march. Please make yourself known to the parade marshals, Brett Taylor-Parkins and Paul Ransome when you arrive.

Gunfire Breakfast: For all RSL members and ex-servicemen and women at RSL rooms immediately following the dawn service.

Two-Up: At the Farmers Arms following the March.

Badge selling: Started on April 16 and will continue until Anzac Day. Stalls will be near the Post Office on Bridge St, at Millers corner, at Woolworths on Smyth St, and at Coles on Carrier St.

Violet Town

Dawn Service: Held outside the Violet Town memorial at 5.45am, light refreshments available immediately after service.

Anzac Day March: 10am, please gather outside the CFA headquarters in Cowslip St.

Gunfire Breakfast: Formal breakfast for members and guests only starts at 8am in the Violet Town RSL rooms.

Badge selling: Throughout Violet Town starting the week leading to Anzac Day.

Dookie

Anzac Day Service: Dookie RSL does not run a dawn service. However, there will be a service in Main St at the War Memorial. There will be a short march prior to the service at 10.45am, the service will be immediately after.

March: Gather in Main St at 10.45am.

Two-Up: At the Gladstone hotel in Dookie. Starts some time after lunch depending when people arrive.

Badge selling: Started this week in and around Dookie and at the two local schools.

Warrenbayne

Anzac Day service: Please gather at the Hall by 1.30pm.

Proceedings will then move down to the cenotaph for a short ceremony before returning to the hall for afternoon tea.

Could those attending please bring a plate of food to share for Afternoon Tea.
