Demons destroy Saints in torrential rain

By Benalla Ensign

Benalla is 0-2 and sits bottom of the Goulburn Valley Netball League after a thumping at the hands of Shepparton United.

Saturday’s match at Deakin Reserve saw the Saints on the receiving end of a 50-22 drubbing where they were behind the eight ball from start to finish.

After round one’s 26-53 defeat to Seymour, the Saints followed it up with an away loss to the Demons in torrid conditions.

Torrential and at times horizontal rain, combined with strong gusty winds, made life difficult for sportspeople across the region over the weekend.

This Saturday’s match will be played against Kyabram at the Benalla Showgrounds, starting at 2.15pm.

The reigning premiers have had an underwhelming start to the season, also recording two losses from as many matches.

A seven-point loss to Mooroopna began the Bombers’ campaign in round one, which was followed up with a 12-goal loss at the hands of Euroa on the weekend.

Kyabram sits ninth on the GVNL ladder.

Saints head coach Pip O’Donoghue did not return the Ensign’s calls.
