Fitness? The Y has the options

Did you know that YMCA Benalla has more than 40 group fitness classes to attend each week?

YMCA Benalla delivers a huge range of both aquatic and land based fitness classes.

All ages and fitness levels are more than welcome, with fully qualified staff on hand to support you towards your healthy lifestyle.

Classes range from 30 minutes to 90 minutes and are held five days a week.

If you are looking to improve your cardio you could drop into the Y and try YHIIT, which is a 30-minute high intensity interval training.

Using a wide range of intense exercises, with monitored rest periods to help burn calories at the highest rate possible.

Impact Mix is a 60-minute class using a mix of equipment including steps and weights while incorporating freestyle aerobics with body movements choreographed to music.

If flexibility is something you would prefer to work on, you could go in and try yoga or Oxigeno.

Mark Blyss is a high-profile yoga instructor within the Benalla community and takes all the centre’s yoga classes.

Oxigeno will enhance your flexibility and mobility through a series of harmonious and flowing movements connected to breathing.

Aqua Aerobics is a triple whammy.

Participating in an aqua class can improve your cardio fitness, muscle tone and co-ordination – all in one 45 minute class.

Swimming laps is a fantastic recovery tool and an even better workout option for athletes. By increasing your ability to take in and effectively use oxygen, swimming increases your endurance capacity.

Aquatic benefits aside, swimming trains your glutes and hamstrings, your core, and your shoulders – all of which are needed for improved running form and performances.

Studies also show that swimming has a huge mental health benefit.

For those preferring to work out solo, the fully equipped gym is the option for you.

With brand new PRECOR treadmill and AMT (Adaptive Motion Trainer), cardio and weight machines – and free weights.

The gym is open during all centre hours.

Don’t be shy if you haven’t tried a gym before there are qualified instructors available throughout the week to help you get the most from your workout.

You could also be on the lookout for the centre’s new SPIN BIKE classes.
