The 31st Annual Strong Wool Sheep Fair held last Sunday at the Benalla Showgrounds has been deemed a great success by organisers.
The fair attracted exhibitors from as far as Henty, Walla Walla, Kyneton ,Yarrawonga,and Barooga.
Organiser Barry Bennett said the highlight of the day was the awarding of two life memberships for wonderful service to Helen Harker of Dookie and Benalla’s Wendy Beer.
‘‘Wendy‘s Drysdale ram won the Best Head trophy, the Meg Miller Grass Roots Magazine award and she also showed the English Leicester champion ram and ewe,’’ Mr Bennett said.
The judges for the competition were Bruce Starritt, Robert Hooper and Jason O‘Loughlan.
The Australian stud sheep breeders association Grand Champion exhibit trophy was won by Sandy and Susan Campbell. They also won the Roy Hull Trophy.
The Kaehlou English Leicester Award for the best wool sheep in show was won by Barry Bennett.
The Murray Valley rural services perpetual trophy was won by Paul Jarick lincolns. They also won the Reserve Champion Interbreed ewe.
The reserve interbreed ram was won by the Esdale lincoln Stud Yarrawonga.
The Aurthur Evans Memorial Shield for the Highest Point Scoring Fleece of the Fair was John and Alice Beattie’s Yarrawonga Lincoln Ram Fleece.
Hay access Yarrawonga sponsored the junior wool classing competition, which was won by Jess Parker of Goorambat.
Best Woolcraft Exhibit in show was won by Wendy Beer.
