Brain signs as assistant

November 10, 2017

Picola & District Football League’s north-west division 2017 Pearce Medal winner Jed Brain has re-signed at Blighty.

The 21 year-old will work alongside newly appointed senior coach Jack Tyndall as an assistant coach for Blighty’s 2018 season.

Brain said he was looking forward to his new role at the club.

‘‘I thought it was a good opportunity for me,’’ he said.

‘‘It comes natural to me to be a leader.

‘‘Not much will really change for me next year as I was pretty vocal and led on and off the field this year as well.’’

Brain had a stellar debut season for the Redeyes, finishing runner-up to Tyndall in the club’s best and fairest and kicking 54 goals to earn Blighty’s leading goalkicker award.

After such an impressive season there was plenty of interest from other footy clubs to secure the services of the goalkicking midfielder.

‘‘I believe you need to look after the people that look after you,’’ Brain said.

‘‘I love the club and have a lot of close mates at Blighty.

‘‘I also have a bit of unfinished business out there.

‘‘This year we had the squad to get to a grand final but just fell short.

‘‘I think if we can keep the boys from this year out at Blighty, then we can go further next year.’’

The Redeyes have also announced that former Deni Rams defender Daniel Jordan has signed on for the 2018 season.

Jordan originally joined the Redeyes for the 2016 season before an ankle injury in a pre-season match saw him miss most of the year.

The 24 year-old also missed most of the 2017 season due to work commitments, before notching up three games in the reserves late in the season.

Tyndall said having Brain and Jordan re-commit was crucial for the club.

‘‘We’re very happy that they’re both staying,’’ he said.

‘‘Dan (Jordan) is pretty much a new recruit and getting Jed back on board was huge.

‘‘Things are looking quite positive for the club at the moment so hopefully we can push that little bit further next year.’’

Blighty have also announced Matt Boyd will take over from Jarrod Andrews as the reserves coach, while Kyel Bain and Jim Sibraa will once again lead the thirds and fourths respectively.
