Malloy claims ‘B’ title

By Southern Riverina News

Congratulations Julie Malloy for winning the recent B Grade Ladies Championship.

On Anzac Day, after watching the parade and then the service at the RSL, a number of bowlers took to the greens and enjoyed the sunshine and music on Wednesday.

Winners on the day were Ed Wilcox, Max Palmer and Lou Richard with runners-up being Gloria Molinaro, Bert van Huizen and Bob Bowman.

The sunshine has also brought out a number of visiting groups. The Tattersalls Club from Melbourne and a small group from Barham have visited Tocumwal in the last couple of weeks.

More guests are expected with Mulgrave Country Club visiting for their annual five day trip from Sunday.

Chris Philpot will be continuing his coaching for both beginners and more advanced bowlers on Monday mornings at 10am.

This is a great time to learn some new skills during the break from the major competitions.

Thursday will see the beginning of a new weekly event for the Month of May with Men’s Pairs (2x2x2x2). The event is mufti dress and costs $15 per person, which includes lunch.

To get involved contact Bob Bowman on 0418313918.

Players remaining in the Men’s Pairs Championship and the 100 up Men’s Pairs Championship are now urged to complete their matches.

All events must be completed well in advance of May 20, when the presentation of trophies will take place, following bowls and a barbecue lunch.

Sunday morning bowls was well supported with Graeme Chubb, Kay McKellar and Michael Pentland forming the best team with +8 shots.

Obviously Ron Pentland has passed on the required knowledge to his grandson Michael, who is visiting form Canberra.

Players are reminded of the Murray Bowls presentation of trophies event which will be highlighted by the launching of the prestigious Hall of Fame on Sunday.

Five people will be inducted and this includes Finley Bowling Club’s Elaine Chaplin whose playing record stands alone in Ladies Bowls within the division.

The ‘Poore Bob’ Pairs will be held on Monday, June 11, with prizemoney of $1000.

The three bowl event comprises three games of eight ends with entries closing at 10am on the day or when 28 teams have been entered.

Finley Little Athletics Club had a great fundraising evening last Friday.

This was a great response by the members and community.

The next evening will benefit the Finley Pony Club.
