Car enthusiasts and rock’n’roll lovers helped raised more than $600 for Deniliquin’s Riding for the Disabled group on Saturday,.

The donations was raised through a Rock ‘n’ Rods event organised by Deniliquin Lee Thommers, and held at the Edward River Hotel.

Mrs Thommers said the event paired two of the things she loves most, but she wanted the event to be more than just a social gathering.

‘‘A friend I work with volunteers for Riding for the Disabled, and I admittedly did not know much about them.

‘‘I wanted to do something to help an organisation that maybe does not get enough community support as some of the others in town.

‘‘We had people from South Australia and Queensland attending the event, as well as from Blighty, Finley, Hay and from the local area.’’

A car display and motorbike joyrides were in the hotel’s car park, and stalls and food vans in the rear yard.

On Saturday evening, band Playing It Cool entertained late into the night.

Riding for the Disabled aims to foster development in disabled people, by teaching them to ride and interact with horses.
