ECHUCA has been handed another racing meeting this month, as the situation at Seymour’s racecourse becomes dire.
Following meetings between Racing Victoria and the Seymour Racing Club regarding the condition of the track, the decision was made to move two further meetings from Seymour to different tracks.
As a result, Echuca will host a meeting on May 10.
It is the second race meeting Echuca will have hosted because of the situation at Seymour in less than a month.
The previous meeting was held at Echuca on April 23.
The most recent meeting held in Seymour — on April 10 — saw a number of horses injured after large clumps of the track were ripped up during races, hitting the horses.
The poor performance has been linked to a deteriorating condition in the root structure of the Seymour turf, however some soil tests which have been conducted so far have not identified the underlying cause of the deterioration.
The track will not be used again until the course has proven to be satisfactory.
The second meeting, on May 25, will be held in Werribee.
