GANNAWARRA Shire Council has commenced three new government funded community care services to assist isolated and vulnerable clients to access a greater level of support services.
Mayor Brian Gibson said council provides high quality community care services and the new government funding was assisting to provide a greater level of support to those most in need.
“Helping to facilitate connections with other people and the wider community is an important priority for council,” he said.
“The additional government funding is very welcome and ensures community members can access individual and group support as well as access to transport to help them connect in with the wider community.”
The three new social support funding streams are:
■Individual social support to assist clients with one-on-one personal support for attending activities in the community, meal preparation and attending medical appointments.
■Group social support with community social meals offered across the Gannawarra Shire in Kerang, Cohuna, Leitchville, Koondrook, Murrabit, Lake Charm/Mystic Park and Quambatook.
■Transport social support to assist clients to access transport to attend community events, appointments, shopping and bill paying.
Access to the new support services is available via the Commonwealth Government’s My Aged Care portal myagedcare.gov.au
