The 2017 Lake Mulwala Rod Run has been labelled as a fantastic success after spectators and entrants alike enjoyed a great weekend in Yarrawonga Mulwala.
Visitors to town and entrants for the event began to converge on Yarrawonga on Friday, kick starting an action-packed weekend.
The sun shone and hot rods and vintage vehicles of all descriptions lined Belmore Street creating a great atmosphere throughout the town.
Northern Suburbs Street Rods President Ray McDonald said for the fifth year running the event attracted great attention from the town and the weekend was fantastic.
“I’m glad you guys know how to turn the weather on, it was a superb day for it and the weather for the weekend was absolutely fantastic,” Ray said.
“We can’t fault it; everything was perfect and went according to plan.”
Official entries for this year’s event reached 515, a little down on last year but comfortable nonetheless.
“We were happy with the amount of people and entries that got involved this year,” Ray said.
“For reasons we don’t know the number was down a bit from last year but we still had a great turn out and the quality of the cars was fantastic.”
The weekend began with many rodders enjoying the Saturday morning Poker Run taking participants on a scenic trail of Yarrawonga’s surroundings.
The action continued at the Wilby Raceway on Saturday afternoon for the nostalgic drag races which were once again hotly contested.
“The drags out at Wilby were great, they put on a great show out there,” Ray said.
“It adds something extra to the weekend.”
Undoubtedly the highlight of the weekend was the Saturday night events, with the Belmore Street Cruise and the Rock ‘n’ Roll dance delivering an electric atmosphere.
“Saturday night was the best part of the whole event,” Ray said.
“The whole township was in the main street and it was absolutely packed.
“The street itself and the restaurants that were open were all choc-a-block and there was a great amount of people on the street with their camp chairs, dancing around having fun with the rock ‘n’ roll music and dancing outside the town hall.
“The atmosphere was just great and it was a fantastic to see everyone having a great time and enjoying the event.”
Finishing the weekend at JC Lowe Oval with the Super Sunday Show and Shine was the perfect end to a fantastic weekend.
Market stalls, entertainment, rock ‘n’ roll dancing and hundreds of vehicles on display lined the oval.
Following another great year, Ray said the event was already locked in for next year and everyone was looking forward to it coming around again.
“The event is locked in already next year for November 9, 10 and 11 and many of the car entries have already booked themselves in and registered,” Ray said.
“We are looking forward to having another great year and seeing more hot rods, vintage vehicles, new and old smiling faces.
“Yarrawonga Mulwala is the place to be on these weekends and it will be great.”
