The Federal Government has committed $100million to improve the ride quality for passengers on the North East Line between Seymour and Albury, according to Infrastructure and Transport Minister Darren Chester.
Mr Chester said community engagement was essential to ensure the proposed program of works aligned with expectations around improvements to passenger services on the line.
‘‘A steering committee involving the Australian Rail Track Corporation, V/Line, Transport for Victoria and the Australian and Victorian governments is currently determining how to get the best value for our investment and will provide this proposed package of works by the end of 2017,’’ he said.
‘‘This report will outline the scope of works to improve the reliability, punctuality and resilience of passenger services between Melbourne and Albury.
‘‘The committee has also established a Technical Working Group to determine solutions to improve passenger train services on the line.
‘‘Based on the technical assessment, a program of works will be developed that will be peer reviewed and form the basis of community consultation.’’
Construction completion timeframes will be set following assessment and approval of the Project Proposal Report early next year.
