James Merlino: ‘But as I have said, we will finish what we started’

EDUCATION Minister James Merlino said he would consider ‘‘future funding as part of the usual budget process’’ for the Echuca Specialist School.

‘‘We will continue to work with Echuca Specialist School ... But as I have said, we will finish what we started,’’ he said.

‘‘I have also instructed the Victorian School Building Authority to immediately work with and support the school on their current maintenance issues.’’

Mr Merlino said his government was left with a ‘‘huge backlog of school investment following record low funding from the Coalition’’.

‘‘Already across Campaspe Shire we have invested more than $18 million on building and upgrading schools compared to a mere $600,000 under the Coalition,’’ he said.

‘‘Relocating Echuca Specialist School is part of the Victorian Government’s vision for the Echuca Regeneration Project.

‘‘The Andrews Labor Government invested $11 million for the new Echuca Twin Rivers Primary School.

‘‘The school opened at the start of this year as part of the project’s first stage, completing a merge between Echuca South Primary School and Echuca West Primary School.’’
