CAMPASPE Shire Council has adopted the Community Engagement Framework which sets out its approach to engaging with the community.
The framework, supported by a policy and toolkit, sets out the direction for the delivery of effective and meaningful engagement with the community.
Council’s approach to community engagement is based on an internationally recognised model.
The International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) model has five guiding levels of engagement.
■Inform: provide the public with balanced and objective information to help them understand the problem, alternatives, opportunities and/or solutions.
■Consult: obtain public feedback on analysis, alternatives and/or decisions.
■Involve: work directly with the public throughout the process to ensure public concerns and aspirations are consistently understood and considered.
■Collaborate: partner with the public in each aspect of the decision including the development of alternatives and the identification of the preferred solution.
■Empower: place final decision making in the hands of the public.
The framework follows a series of community engagement sessions across the shire.
