November 15, 2017

Deputy Mayor Ed Cox congratulates Mayor Libro Mustica on his election.

Cr Libro Mustica was elected Mayor of Moira Shire Council for 2017/18 at a special meeting in Strathmerton held last week.

Cr Ed Cox will serve as Deputy Mayor.
Mayor Mustica is the first Italian-born mayor of Moira Shire and gave a portion of his election speech in his native tongue.
He thanked outgoing Mayor Gary Cleveland, who served as mayor for two terms, for his service to the council saying it had been outstanding.
“With this election we are making history, we are letting that Australian multi-cultural community shine with the introduction of the first Mayor from a non-English speaking background,” Mayor Mustica said.
“I was born more than 15,000kms away in Italy and migrated to Australia when I was ten years old.
“My parents chose Cobram and we all embraced this beautiful area as our new home.
“Since those early years I have become deeply passionate and committed to further advance the area that I love.
“I believe it is time for a fresh start, time for members of the community to be confident in their local council and time for locals to have a voice and know that we are here to listen.
“We need to invest in our people and create a community where our youth can not only get a job, but develop a lifelong career rather than moving away to the city.
“I’m looking forward to working with you all and continuing the great work of this council to turn Moira Shire into the amazing community we know it can be.”
The first ordinary meeting of Moira Shire Council with Mayor Mustica presiding will be held on Wednesday, November 22 at the Cobram Civic Centre at 6pm.
