Benalla Table Tennis Club’s spring domestic competition has lived up to its billing after a stellar winter competition.

Last week’s semi-finals lived up to expectations when the best teams met in the knock-out round.

In A-grade action Wallabies’ youngsters taught Echidnas how to play table tennis in a convincing 3-0 result.

Ashley Duns and Cooper Irwin were outstanding, winning all their matches comfortably after some hard-fought rallies.

Echidnas players Jeff Austen and Michelle Feldtmann tried to break through, but were not in the same class as their opponents.

Plovers won their way into the grand final with a convincing 3-2 victory over Possums.

Dean Quilty starred for Plovers, giving an outstanding performance to win both singles in style. He had strong support from Brian Perry, who won a singles in straight sets to get the team over the line.

B-grade

Numbats had a scare, just holding on for a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the talented Redbacks in the match of the night.

John Spencer and Jack McNulty had luck on their side, playing steadily to win a singles each, before sealing the win with a doubles victory.

Pauline Hooper was player of the match, winning both singles in a magnificent performance.

Gliders smashed Eagles, with Beth Grant almost single-handedly winning the tense encounter.

She produced her best form this season to win both singles in straight sets against strong opposition.

C-grade

Top-team Koalas impressed with a determined 3-1 victory over Hawks in a hard-fought clash.

Helen Sharp was in sensational form, playing brilliantly to win both singles in a stylish display.

She had great support from Carol Chay, who played solidly with Sharp for a straight sets doubles victory.

Crickets were in top form when they posted an important 3-0 victory over Magpies in a close encounter.

James Young and Andrea Cathcart had to perform at their best to hold off Magpies in a tight contest.

The grand finals of the spring competition were played out last night. The presentation night will be held at the Benalla Golf Club on Tuesday, December 12, starting at 6pm.
