Yarrawonga Mulwala Cricket Club (YMCC) can boast a record most cricket clubs would be envious of when five of its players represent the North-East Region this weekend.
In a team made up from the Wangaratta and District Cricket Association and Cricket Albury Wodonga; the YMCC have five players out of the team of eleven. The WDCA boasts seven representatives and CAW contribute the final four players plus a 12th man.
Opening batsman Reid Clarke, Number three batsman Matt Casey along with fast bowling trio Jim Irvine, Matt McCabe and Angus McMillan will head to Koondrook to contest the final of the Victorian Country Cricket League Under 21 Championships.
After successfully winning their opening two games, the North East Under 21’s were down to play Barwon in the final; however, Barwon, located in the Geelong region and two-time defending champs were disqualified after playing an over age player in their second game. Thus, moving North East to the top of the ladder and a clash with the newly ranked second team; Gippsland.. The game will be played at Koondrook Recreation Reserve this Sunday, December 10, commencing at 10:30am.
Matt Casey who has batted in both games as the number three has made close to 100 runs in his two innings for North East; while at club level boasts two centuries in the last month. Reid Clarke has not been required to bat as yet but has taken catches in each match and his leadership skills have been utilised. Fast bowling trio, Jim Irvine, Matt McCabe and Angus McMillan have all taken wickets for the North East and are amongst the leading wicket takers in the WDCA.
The Yarrawonga Mulwala Cricket Club are extremely proud of their five representatives; which showcases the talent that is nurtured and given experience within the local club setting with five players from one club among a two-competition combined team of 11 players.
The North-East Knight teams have also been named for the Victorian Cricket Championships which will be held in Melbourne. YMCC representatives include;
