Deniliquin Gymnastics Club held its annual presentation and display day on Saturday.

Local gymnasts showcased skills they had learned throughout the year to about 500 parents and friends at the Deni Sports Stadium.

Highlights of the day saw Rylee Strong and Gymnast of the Year winner Nick Caruso showcase their talents with individual displays.

Deni Gymnastics head coach Rachel Bucholtz said it was a massive year for the club.

‘‘There’s been huge level of interest in gymnastics from our little town with 100 athletes attending classes and over 50 more on a waiting list,’’ she said.

‘‘We’ve installed extra matting, wall padding and uneven bars. We’ll have more space in the near future with the stadium securing funding for an extension.

‘‘Deniliquin also equalled the number of most teams entered in the National Clubs Carnival Team Gym event in Bendigo in September, and seeing the enjoyment that our gymnasts got out of this experience was fantastic.

‘‘We also had Rylee Strong attend a LEAP leadership camp which boosted her knowledge for coaching gymnastics.’’

Awards on presentation day saw Zoe Circuitt claim the Rising Star honour, Abbey Marshall earning the Passion Award and Eliza Atley named Most Improved.

Coach’s Award winners were Charlie Connor-Hetherington, Lillianne Jansen, Sophie Tritton, Demi Marshall, Phoebe Newman and Claire Hayes.

The day also saw the introduction of the Team Gym Team Spirit Awards, with one gymnast from each Deniliquin Team Gym team earning the honour.

Winners of the Team Spirit award were as follows: Maddie Weir (Deni Divas), Jasmyn McKenzie (Deni Tumblers), Daisy Daniel (Deni Dazzlers) and Scarlett Hehir (Deni Diamonds).

‘‘We had a lot of competitive highlights throughout the year,’’ Bucholtz added.

‘‘We had fantastic results at the Moyhu WAG invitational with Deniliquin winning the highest average score trophy.

‘‘We also did well at the WAG Flyaway Championships in Albury in April.

‘‘Our first trip to the Team Gym State Championships in Sydney was amazing. We had two teams with both taking home silver medals.

‘‘Overall it’s been a tremendous year for gymnastics and I’m looking forward to more success in future years.’’
