After the washout last week, round nine of the Deniliquin Lawn Tennis Club’s pre-Christmas competition will be played tomorrow.
This is the final ‘home and away’ round and serves as a prelude to the grand final the following Saturday.
The two top teams after the nine rounds will contest the decider, and it’s predicted that Agspares/Legal Eagles and Taskers Battlers/Elders will be those two teams.
The current competition standings are: Agspares 84, Taskers 71, Peppin Planners/TA Maher 57 and Mitre Ten 50 points.
Even with a huge win on Saturday, third placed Peppin would still need to rely on second placed Taskers to win less than five sets.
In the final round tomorrow the two top teams square off, which should give Peppin some hope.
The most likely scenario however is that the winner of this top-of-the-table clash will claim the minor premiership and some confidence ahead of the season finale.
Both teams have a number of farmers who might be out either tomorrow or grand final day attending to harvest duty, therefore the results are anyone’s guess.
There will be a social gathering at the clubrooms in the evening after play tomorrow. Please advise your captain or Aimee Liefting should you wish to attend.
