Confusion surrounds crash

By Riverine Herald

ECHUCA police are appealing for information following a crash on the Murray Valley Hwy on Saturday.

Senior Constable Kris Sutton of Campaspe Highway Patrol said a 58-year-old man driving a white Holden Colorado dual cab ute collided with a tree north of Casey Rd about 7.15pm.

‘‘The allegation is that he started his journey in Echuca in Ogilvie Ave where he lost his rear passenger tyre,’’ he said.

‘‘He travelled west on Ogilvie Ave and turned right onto the Murray Valley Hwy towards Gunbower and drove for 8.5km prior to colliding with the tree.’’

The vehicle was seen travelling at low speeds and emitting sparks, with a concerned witness reporting an erratic driver to police.

The man tested negative to drunk and drug driving, but police are investigating the circumstances of the collision.

‘‘Inquiries are continuing,’’ Snr Constable Sutton said. ‘‘If anyone witnessed this incident, could they please call Campaspe Highway Patrol on 54831500.’’
