At Friday night's screening of Red Dog were (back, from left) Tyler and Bailey Gatt and Bella and Nicholas Borg; (front) Maddison Borg, Aiden Gatt and Emily Borg.

Four great movies over four nights kept locals and visitors alike entertained in Deniliquin from Thursday to Sunday.

Cinema Pop Up created a beautiful outdoor cinema on the Edward River Oval with support from Edward River Council.

The movies played were already popular among movie lovers, with Big Hero 6, Red Dog, The Lego Batman Movie and Step Brothers featuring respectively.

Edward River Council manager tourism and economic development Michelle Cobb said about 700 people enjoyed the screenings over the four nights.

‘‘There were 1056 bookings for tickets, but we think the heat on Saturday and Sunday might have forced a few people away,’’ she said.

‘‘But it seemed to be a big hit with those who attended, and everyone was rapt with it.’’

One person to take advantage of the Cinema Pop Up visit was Jacinta Hawley, who said it was an entirely new experience for her children — Cayden, 10, and Alyssa, 7.

‘‘Having something like that here was fantastic, especially as it was free,’’ Mrs Hawley said.

‘‘It was something to do with my children that did not cost a lot of money.

‘‘We went on the Thursday night, and while they had seen Big Hero 6 before it was just nice to have a different experience.

‘‘It was the first time either of them had been to an outdoor movie.’’

Ms Cobb said council intends to host Cinema Pop Up again, but said it would be subject to necessary approvals.
