Murray Bombers hold sway

IT was a tough day on the court for Rochester Tigerettes against rivals Echuca Bombers with just one win for the day.

U15s — Rochester 43 def. Echuca 21

Wet, slippery conditions and facing rivals Echuca rattled the under 15 girls with a tough first quarter leaving them down by three goals at quarter time.

The defence end of Teal Hocking and Eliza Williams was a force to be reckoned with.

Hocking was tight on her opponent’s heels taking many rebounds and Williams intercepting strongly.

By half time Rochy found their footing and had a nice six goal lead.

Charlee Roulston played an awesome game in wing attack chasing balls and providing opportunites for Kasey Conder and Tazarni Clarke in the attack end.

Fourth quarter saw the girls dominate the game and finish off with a 22-goal win.

Best: Teal Hocking, Charlee Roulston, Kasey Conder and Tazarni Clarke.

U17s — Echuca 44 def. Rochester 31

It was a much anticipated game for the under 17’s with a very tight contest all game.

The girls were nervous and fought valiantly against a tough opponent.

Defenders Brielle O’Mera and Rosy Miechel worked hard in the ring together with O’Mera playing exceptionally well with tight play and strong intercepts.

Lana Marsh played a ripper game in wing defence with arms over every ball and causing turnovers down the court.

Annie Hughes was dynamite in the goal ring with accurate shooting and defensive pressure down the court.

The girls fought hard but a lull in the third quarter let Echuca extend their lead and the girls were unable to claw it back.

Best: Annie Hughes, Lana Marsh and Brielle O’Mera.

B Reserve — Echuca 54 def. Rochester 16

B Reserve had a hard start to the game ending up nine goals down at quarter time.

The girls lifted the intensity in the second quarter with defenders Grace Ingram and Eliza Watson intercepting many balls and making the goalers work hard for every ball.

Ingram was excellent down the court with strong defensive pressure and drives.

Annalise Ball ran out a superb game in centre intercepting balls and creating space down the court with excellent positioning and strong drives.

It was a hard game for the girls but they didn’t drop their heads all game.

A good effort but the girls went down in the end.

Best: Grace Ingram, Eliza Watson and Annalise Ball.

B grade — Echuca 54 def. Rochester 40

Cold and wet conditions in B grade made for slippery conditions on the court.

Echuca started off strong with a lead of four after the first quarter.

Jamie Dingwall and Alyse Stroobants combined well together in the goal ring to help keep Rochy in the game. Maddy Holt was excellent in defence taking flying intercepts and strong rebounds.

Trailing at three quarter time the Rochy girls forced some great turnovers but just couldn’t manage to pull back the lead.

Best: Jamie Dingwall, Alyse Stroobants and Maddy Holt.

A grade — Echuca 62 def. Rochester 37

A grade were up against a much taller and quicker team but the girls never dropped their heads or the intensity.

Maddy Egglestone worked hard all game in defence taking lovely intercepts to give the girls a spark.

Tess Teggelove shot well and combined well alongside Sahra Brooks in the ring.

Eesha Clarke ran out a great game in centre making space and passing accurately into goalers.

Echuca were too strong and ran out comfortable winners.

Best: Maddy Egglestone, Tess Teggelove and Eesha Clarke.

After a tough week the girls will be hungry for a win against Shepparton Swans away next week.
