Two young Benalla cricketing superstars are set to shine brightly for the Northern Knights in the Cricket Victoria State Championships.
Benalla Bushrangers Vaughan Kirk, 17, and Jack Fullager, 13, have been selected for the under-18 and under-14 Knights sides to compete in the championships, held in Melbourne.
In their first match, on Monday, the under-18 team beat Metropolitan Outer South, with Kirk scoring four runs not out.
The win put Kirk’s Knights top of their pool with a higher net run rate than the other three sides that won on the first day’s play.
At the time of publication, the Knights were up against the Metropolitan Northern side at Yarra Valley Grammar School.
Today, the side will face Metropolitan Inner East in round three of the state championships.
The round-robin stage for the under-18s finishes tomorrow, with the knockout stages taking place from Thursday.
While Fullager’s under-14s start their tournament on Monday, finishing the round robins on Friday.
They will start their campaign against Metropolitan Outer South at Casey Fields, in Cranbourne East.
