NZ competition has silver lining for Gino

Kyabram's Gino D'Angelo (centre) scored himself two silver medals at the trans-Tasman shooting competition in New Zealand recently.

KYABRAM’S Gino D’Angelo did himself, his town and his country proud in a recent trans-Tasman shooting competition in New Zealand.

Gino was one of five Australian shooters representing the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia who pitted themselves against a New Zealand team.

In the shoot-out over three days Gino bagged two personal silver medals.

One of these was achieved on the opening day of competition when he lost a shoot-off for the gold medal to fellow Victorian Peter Reading.

It was a 100 targets Five Stand Compak Championship event and Gino shot 91-100 in the double barrel event to take it into the shoot-off.

The Saturday and Sunday of the championships saw shooters from both countries tackle 100 targets on each day.

Gino shot a combined 176 out of 200 to take the runners-up medal in the event, which was won by a New Zealander.

The Saturday shoot was also incorporated with a teams event but in keeping with his other results Gino had to be content with second place again.

‘‘We scored 105 out of 125 and they were a bit too good with a 114 out of 125,’’ said Gino.

It was the first time Gino has represented his country and he said he was very grateful for the experience, which he had thoroughly enjoyed.
