Impressive Albury win for Archard’s new horse

Maria Elisa, a new addition to the Rhys Archard stable, was a dominant winner at Albury.

The filly ($4) ridden by Brooke Sweeney won the Class 1 Handicap (900m) by 2 lengths from Eastern Pegasus with Diamonds For Alice third.

Maria Elisa was a last start sixth at Mornington in November when trained by Mike Moroney.

The three year-old has had seven starts for two wins and a second.

Our Project gave the Phil Sweeney stable a win at Albury.

Carrying topweight Our Project ($2.80 fav) posted his fifth win in the Benchmark 57 (1175m).

The five year-old ridden by apprentice Jody Hughes defeated Little Jatz by a half length with Miss Farloo third.


Berrigan four year-old Callisto Moon broke a sequence of unplaced runs with a Wangaratta win.

Callisto Moon ($7) ridden by Ben Thompson won the Benchmark 58 (1400m) by three quarters of a length from Echuca gelding I’m The Boss.

The winner’s owners include Emma Steel who trained the gelding until recently.

Romsey trainer Luke Oliver explains: ‘‘Emma is having a break from training and sent the horse to me.’’


In answer to a reader’s query, Craftsman did not race at Deniliquin.

This outstanding locally owned horse trained in Melbourne had his first start in a Cranbourne Two Year-Old Handicap, finishing seventh.

He had three unplaced runs in his first preparation.

Craftsman returned for a first-up win at Werribee.

Seven starts as a three year-old yielded six wins including the Victoria Derby.


Follow – Call Me Handsome: Consistent former Hong Kong five year-old was third at Sandown after losing his footing at the start and almost dislodging the rider; placed all five starts with one win.


Coming winners: Addison began slowly and conceded a big start when third at Caulfield.

Khulaasa’s second at Flemington at her first start was a pointer to an early win.

Handsome Thief gained clear running too late at Caulfield when third at his first run since September.
