Striking it rich Cobram Lotto syndicate claims top prize

February 14, 2018

Time to rejoice: Alison Brown and Cobram Lotto store owner Dean Clydesdale can barely contain their excitement after a long-running store syndicate shared the spoils in over $1.5 million.

As the old catchphrase goes, you have to make your own luck sometimes.

These words of wisdom will be ringing more loudly than ever for 15 lucky Cobram residents, whose long-running Tattslotto syndicate won first division on Saturday night.

The Cobram Lotto store syndicate won $1,560129 in the $21million superdraw, with each shareholder taking home $104,008.62.

The syndicate entry also won division two six times, division three 12 times, division four 45 times and division five 20 times, boosting the total prize to more than $1.5million.

It was one of three division one-winning entries in Victoria, and one of 14 nationwide.

Cobram Lotto owner Dean Clydesdale said the shop was abuzz with excitement on Monday as six syndicate members visited the store to claim their winnings.

‘‘It’s very exciting. We’ve had winners coming in all morning to claim their prize,’’ Mr Clydesdale said.

‘‘Some have known already, but I’ve been able to break the news to some, which is just fantastic.

‘‘A couple have said they will use it on house renovations, but we are yet to hear from all of our winners.

‘‘We’ve been telling all of our customers we sold a division one-winning entry and put some signs up. It has certainly created a buzz around town.’’

Mr Clydesdale said the syndicate had been running for many years.

‘‘We’ve owned the place for about 15 years, but this syndicate was set up by the old owner about 18 years ago,’’ he said.

‘‘When he set it up he called it ‘‘2B’’, but now we call it ‘‘To be or not to be’’.

‘‘The same regular players from the local area play it every week and they’ve had some smaller wins over the years, but nothing like this.’’

The six winning numbers in Saturday’s draw were 7, 27, 23, 2, 16 and 44, while the supplementary numbers were 25 and 28.
