ROCHESTER police are targeting speeding on all district roads, not just on the major highway.

Sergeant Frank Severino said police regularly patrolled roads where people thought they could speed and not be caught.

This follows a 19-year-old Rochester youth allegedly driving at 175km/h on the Rochester-Heathcote Rd recently.

The vehicle was immediately impounded for 48 hours under the hoon laws.

The driver will be summonsed to attend court with charges of exceeding the speed limit and driving outside the conditions of his licence.

THREE ‘‘swaggies’’ and their support crew left Sydney yesterday morning bound for Rochester overland on foot.

The party left the Australia Bicentennial Authority’s office is George St at 10am yesterday.

They will arrive back in Rochester on February 26 and deliver a charter which has been sent from Rochester in Kent, England, as part of Australia’s Bicentenary celebrations.

The charter was brought to Australia on the young Endeavour, which was England’s gift to Australia to mark the Bicentenary.

Hostile Artillery firing is taking place at Cambrai and Lens.’’

Berlin newspapers are filled with sensational reports of a conference between the Austro-German Governments and the Military Headquarters Staffs, which, it is alleged, have decided upon a great plan to campaign in Northern Russia as well as in West Poland.

The future of the countries was inconclusively discussed, but the German representatives adhered to their demands to monopolise the mining and industrial regions, leaving Austria only the agricultural lands.
