The Benalla Saleyards hosted its first weekly sale last Wednesday.
The sale, which is usually held in Echuca, featured horses, pigs, chooks and carts
‘‘Most of our supporters from Echuca came over and enjoyed the atmosphere,’’ Benalla Auctioneer Tim Ward said.
‘‘The positives are all there, there were happy people everywhere and the prices were equal to what we get at Echuca.
‘‘We’re about creating opportunities for people to visit our area for the day, some will come and want to stay overnight as well, so that will benefit our community.’’
Mr Ward said he would also like to see the younger generations get involved.
‘‘We’ve been talking to the Flexible Learning Centre about opportunities for young kids struggling to work out career options, so that they can come and get involved on the day,’’ Mr Ward said.
‘‘We try to run our sales as family orientated and want to help make opportunities for people in other industries.’’
The sales are expected to be held in Benalla during the coming months.
