The munchkins at St Joseph’s Jerilderie had their parents and friends following the yellow brick road to the Civic Hall on Wednesday for the school’s annual production.
The children performed ‘The Magical Land of Oz’ to a full house in two performances — a matinee and an evening production.
Playing the lead role of Dorothy was Lily Cocks, and there was even a special cameo from teacher Bernadette Leahy in the dream sequence.
Play director Helen Dickie said the students were ‘‘outstanding to put together a tough play’’ in a short amount of time.
‘‘We started rehearsing about eight weeks ago and the kids have made plenty of strides,’’ she said.
‘‘The story is the same but the songs are a little different and much harder to perform.
‘‘It’s a really good production for these students because you can have a lot of fun with it, for example at one stage in the play they walk through the yellow brick road through the audience.
‘‘The kids have shown plenty of enthusiasm and have really gone to so much effort to portray their characters.’’
