The crowd watches on as one of the dogs navigates the sheep through the optical course.

The sheep dog trials took place at Benalla Showgrounds last week, with the three division trials exciting the crowd and volunteers watching this prestigious event.

People from NSW, Queensland and Tasmania joined local competitors in the optical course of five categories for dogs to navigate sheep through with the help of their owners.

The event relies heavily on volunteers, with farmer Malcolm Ellis supplying the sheep for the event and the Men’s Shed putting on the lunches. Time keeper John Cleary was in his 30th year of volunteering.
