CAMPASPE Shire Council approved renaming the Internal Audit Committee to the Audit and Risk Committee and adopted a new charter following a comprehensive review.
Mayor Adrian Weston said the committee’s role is to assist council in overseeing financial and performance reporting, risk management, the audit process and compliance with legislation and the code of conduct.
“The first committee was appointed in 1997 and during the 20 years of operation, the charter has been continually developed and reviewed with the name of the committee changing twice, to most recently the Audit and Risk Committee,” Cr Weston said.
The review included reviewing the membership of the committee.
“The committee will consist of two councillors and three external members with experience in the financial, risk management, governance and/or public sectors,” the mayor added.
The review also amended the duration of appointment with an external member able to serve a term of up to four years.
