About 50 hectares of grass and stubble was burnt off Melrose Rd, Tocumwal last Wednesday.
Firefighters from the Finley, Berrigan and Barooga Rural Fire Service brigades were called to assist Tocumwal to fight the blaze about 4.15pm.
With the combined effort of 30 firefighters, they were able to contain the fire within two hours.
Firefighters were able to stop the fire from threatening major infrastructure and equipment, but part of a fence was destroyed.
Tocumwal RFS Captain Dean Kelener has urged local landholders to take extra care now that permit burns are allowed in the region.
Capt Kelener said there have been a number of reports of permitted burns escaping their boundaries.
‘‘People need to make sure that weather conditions are appropriate and precautions are made to safely carry out a permit burn,’’ he said.
‘‘This caution needs to be taken seriously to ensure no-one becomes at risk of harm and there is no damage to property.’’
