After only one game Tallygaroopna has showed itself to be a flag favourite in Kyabram District Football League.
With an impressive list on paper, the Redlegs performed to their ability to dismiss reigning premier Nagambie by 77 points.
The Lakers were undermanned and coach Linc Sullivan pulled on the boots for the first time since appearing in a sole game in 2015.
It was tough going for Nagambie, relying on its usual suspects to perform.
Anthony Haysom, Mark Nolan and Michael Roberts all toiled diligently, but the Lakers struggled to dint the scoreboard.
Kicking just three goals up to three-quarter time, the match belong to Tallygaroopna as the Sidebottoms ran rampant.
In his first game coaching in the league, Kevin O’Donoghue was able to revel in his recruiting during the off season and Mitch Sidebottom as the key tall dominated in the ruck.
‘‘Our pressure was fantastic, our key position players and our talls made a major impact,’’ O’Donoghue said.
‘‘We got a chance to target what the club needed and then for them to put in that sort of performance was encouraging.
‘‘He (Mitch Sidebottom) really controlled the aerial stuff and his stoppage work was great, so we had an advantage from there.’’
As two sets of siblings — brothers Trent and Tyson Sidebottom played alongside cousins Mitch and Dylan Sidebottom — the family was part of all the action.’’
‘‘Tyson was really good and Dylan was really good and finished with five goals and Trent was great down back,’’ O’Donoghue said.
Along with Dylan’s haul of five goals, Nick Fichera helped himself to four majors, while Tyler Pedretti and Aaron Wood scored three each.
While admitting Nagambie was missing some star power, O’Donoghue wants to build on the 127-50 demolishing.
‘‘They’ve got some quality players and were a little bit under done and were missing a few, but we’ll take that any time,’’ he said.
‘‘We’ll just try and maintain that level, we were very good all day which is going to be hard to do every game, but it was encouraging signs.’’
The Redlegs have a test ahead as they come up against the might of Stanhope, while Nagambie will look to gain its first win when it meets Undera.
